A few weeks ago the team at TimberXP was very lucky to visit XLAM DOLOMITI in Trento, northern Italy. We received a personalised tour of the facilities from none other than mass timber virtuoso and CEO Albino Angeli!
We saw the full panel production process, everything from lamella selection, finger-jointing and edge-gluing to CLT layup, panel gluing and pressing. The completed master panels are processed on the CNC, packed, labelled and ready for shipping. The process was incredibly efficient.
Then we moved on to the QA process where we saw testing of finger-joints, accelerated ageing and splitting tests for the glued panel joints. Specimens are catalogued for record-keeping and future reference.
The tour concluded with an essential Italian espresso in front of the table made from CLT panels, repurposed after fire testing!
XLAM DOLOMITI have contributed to some iconic Australian projects such as Building 360 Boola Katitjin at Murdoch University.
